The first really great Dead show of '73, and one of the first bootlegs I ever had too. I copied it from a tape my friend Pat had (may his departed soul rest in bliss & happiness) back in my late teens when I was first getting into the Dead. It was a SBD. Great to hear a MTX version. Notable for Donna actually sounding good on You Ain't Woman Enough, as well as a generally awesome performance and a juicy Phil solo between Dark Star and Eyes.

Subject: This show sizzles with energy in a recording of rare clarity!
Not only is this a fabulous show with drive, intensity and a high level of energy, but this Matrix recording is truly special. The term "Matrix Tape" comes from Dan Healy's use of the matrix section of the soundboard (mixing consoles have what's called a mixing matrix - an area where several stereo mixes can be bussed together from separate sources). Healey is credited with bussing together an audience microphone with a soundboard mix. The result is nothing short of AMAZING. Amongst the finest quality recording I have heard from the Archives.

The band builds up through the first set and through the first few songs of the second, reaching its denouement in the 47 minutes of Dark Star->Eyes of the World ->China Doll -- a veritable tour de force as the band explores new, hitherto uncharted regions of their collective musical universe, while simultaneously no doubt expanding the collective consciousness of their audience. Blowing individual minds to smithereens. This is one for the ages and one of the very best live recording you will ever hear. Period.

Subject: This was my favorite tape
Whatever was going on in my life was always helped along by having this show on tape.
And the Dark STAR> EYES >CHINA DOLL was my sanctuary in good times and bad.
Also have to say I got a bad case of the hots for Donna when I heard her version of Loretta Lyn's "You ain't Woman enough".

Subject: cue points
i too am suprised that when this whole thing 1st started it wasn't common practice to leave all transitions intact. its ironic that the transitions are kind of like one of the most important parts about the dead, + they end up cutting everything for the sake of having every track cue-able. but dont get me wrong this is a freaking amazing show and great new mastering

Subject: why do you cut tracks!!!
So thanks for the matrix work but for the love of jerry why do you people not understand that us streamers HATE the blip hesitation between tracks in china rider, scarlet-fire, dark star eyes..etc anything !!!! why!!!!! Can you please repost with combined song fragments...
